LCD Full HD display (1080p), HDMI for full digital HD connection, Energy Star for energy efficiency
I have worked for a cable company as well as a Directv and Dish Network maintainer, so I get a look at TVs at every price level. That said this is a pretty good TV, at the price it goes for this is a great TV. I use it with digital cable, mostly High Def, also an Xbox 360 and a PS3 all through HDMI connections. After some initial tweaking the picture is beautiful. There is no adjustment for the backlight so the picture is very bright, and while this great for rooms with a lot of ambient light, this leads to the one problem that I have with this set, during very bright, usually sunlight scenes, there is considerable blooming of the lighted objects. It only manifest itself under certain conditions and by no means often, but you should be aware. If you’re not looking for perfection from a set, just a good picture at a great price, here it is.
*UPDATE* OK, I had the TV for almost a year now and I must say I’m still impressed with what I got for my money. However, for the zealots out there let me point out a couple of things. First, there are not separate picture settings for each of the inputs, I really thought it would be a problem once I realized it, but I have no complaints with it at all, the picture is great no matter what input I’m using. Next, as I mentioned in when I first got it there’s no back-light adjustment, which I also thought would be a major problem, however I noticed that I only see the blooming in the picture with DVDs on my PS3, everything is being fed with HDMI cables, but I only notice the almost glow off of the PS3. So, as I said before if your looking a tier 1 TV you can brag to your friends about, look elsewhere, but if you want a good TV, a PS3, a few new DVDs, and dinner with your girlfriend for the same price, check this baby out!

I strongly believe that Samsung has the best line of HD TVs available. I have not yet seen a TV able to match the picture I get for the price I paid. I have had this TV for over a year and still get amazed from time to time when watching HD TV shows/movies. Very nice design and easy to use remote.

73-Inch Diamond 1080p DLP HDTV
I have had this TV for about 1 month now and am absolutely amazed with the picture quality.
I was moving off a 9 year old Mitsubishi 60″ rear projection TV on standard def TV, so I may be overly impressed with the HD aspect of the image, but the picture quality on this new Mitsubishi is amazing.
I frequently watch DirecTV HDTV (and standard) broadcasts, watch movies on an old DVD player, and use the Wii gaming system. I have no surround sound system yet and have found the audio to be below the quality of my old TV (someone mentioned it sounds like it comes out of a can which is true). However, the sound is good enough for me right now until I can install my surround sound system, so I’m not in a hurry to do that yet.
I used most of the default settings for color/etc and simply use the “Natural” setting for night-time TV watching and the “Brilliant” setting for day-time TV watching. My TV is in a well-lit room with a lot of ambient light and there is almost no noticeable reflection from the sun or the ceiling track lights. The improvement over the old rear projection TV is phenomenal in that regard (the old TV screen almost acted like a mirror in some cases, which ruined the picture quality on sunny days depending on the viewing angle).
I also set the TV to simply broadcast every signal in native format, so I sometimes am watching 480i (Wii); sometimes 720p (ABC & ESPN); and sometimes watching 1080i (various cable and network stations). Even with 1080i it seems that not all broadcasts have the same quality.
The Wii looks much better than on my old TV, but not as good as on my in-laws 55″ Sony XBR. Apparently they have an X-Box which broadcasts in 1080p (1080i maybe?) instead of the 480 the Wii manages. Even with 480, the Wii games are phenomenal on such a huge TV screen, and that more than makes up for any slight blurriness. If you look for the soft edges, you’ll find them, but if you just play the games, they look great.
I have watched basketball and Nascar, and have not noticed any problems with the image or blurriness. The image is so sharp it is almost frightening (especially on the Brilliant setting)…I can’t wait for football season to start!
I considered a plasma, but knew the Wii gaming system would probalby be left on overnight (frequently?) and possibly ruin the TV. I also considered a LCD, but really wanted a HUGE TV. I seriously considered the 65″ Sharp Aquos, but when I compared the image at Best Buy, the Mitsubishi blew it away. That and the fact that a couple of my friends have the same TV sold me on getting the 73″ Mitsu.
I bought the matching base to go along with the TV and actually freed up almost 1 foot of space in my living room by replacing the old 60″ TV which had a monster footprint. This TV snaps into the base and is quite sturdy.
I just noticed Mitsubishi has a newer verions (85737) now, and they also may have 84″ TV. That would probably be too large. The 73″ right now borders on “almost too big” because we sit about 12-15 feet away from the picture, and sometimes you actually have to move your eyes a little to the left or right to see the entire scene on such a big TV! (especially if an object moves across the entire screen)
Anyway, just thought I’d provide a brain-dump of everything I thought and saw in case it is helpful for anyone else to make a decision on this TV. I have no regrets and am actually disappointed in myself for not pulling the trigger earlier!

The brilliant Samsung LED TV experience starts with the UN40B6000. Its incredible mega contrast provides blacker blacks and whiter whites along with enriched color expression. Its ultra-slim 1.2″ depth is the slimmest HDTV yet, and that includes the tuner! The exclusive touch of color design complements any room, and infolink puts up to date information right at your fingertips. Best yet, Samsung LED TVs use 40% less power than conventional LCDs.
just wanted to commment on my new purchase of the the un40b6000. I have been holding off for several years before taking the high definition plunge. I decided on purchasing the samsung edge lit led tv versus just the lcd version. I have to say for the most part I have been very impressed with the picture. right out of the box the tv was easy to setup and not that confusing on the menu options. Everything was pretty straight forward. HDMI cables are so much easier than having to mess with with all of the component and fiberoptic cables. Just plug and play. The picture quality is great and like many other comments have stated it might be to good. I have noticed especially on blue ray movies that the shows have lost their movie look. The picture is so clear that the movie looks like it is being performed on a stage. It is hard to describe in words seeing is truly believing. The only problems that I have run into with this tv is when I hooked up a samsung blueray player. It seems that there is a default program called samsung anynet+. If you dont disable the program from the blueray player it locks up the blueray player. Easy fix if you know the solution. Anyways if you are on the fence with a tv purchase this is a good product. If you can wait on purchasing like any electronics everything will get better and cheaper. The only advice I can give you is that get ready for some extra expenses. HDMI cables are not cheap. However the cheapest cables work just as good as the most expensive. If you are an existing customer with dishnetwork you can negogitate the service fee for having your hd service turned on. Go aheah and get a blueray player with the tv. Even the standard dvds look awesome on it. good luck and hope this review helps.
